MAPS is a 501 (c) (3) corporation chartered in 1986 as a membership-based research and educational organization. MAPS was founded one year after the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) made MDMA a Schedule 1 drug and criminalized both its recreational and therapeutic uses. MAPS focuses on the development of beneficial, socially-sanctioned uses of psychedelic drugs and marijuana. Such uses may include psychotherapeutic and physiological research and treatment, treatment of addiction, pain relief, spiritual exploration, creativity research, shamanic healing, psychic research, brain physiology research and related scientific inquiries.

MAPS pursues its research mission by helping and/or sponsoring scientific researchers to design, obtain governmental approval for, fund, conduct and report on psychedelic and marijuana research in human volunteers. MAPS pursues its educational mission through its website, a willingness to engage the media in dialogue, thepublication of books and a quarterly Bulletin that is sent to its members as well as government policy makers and academic experts.

In essence, MAPS is a non-profit pharmaceutical company. MAPS’ top priority projects involve researching the potential of 3,4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, Ecstasy) and marijuana to become FDA-approved prescription medicines.

Currently mixing as artist Kitty-D (Troubled Youth, SF), he is also known as Daveed. Twice a month Kitty-D throws the event "Beatchurch" event at Nickie’s in San Francisco with DJ Neptune. (http://tribes.tribe.net/beatchurch)

Kitty-D rocks his mid-tempo wobbly bass, haunting melodies, and breaky alien glitch-hop styles with live manipulations and surprises. Sounds that are inspired by life, death, and the unknown; experimenting with sound waves to incite healing, crunk, and emotional madness. This is Kittyology.

Kitty-D started creating music with intention at 7 years old with guitar and keyboards. At 13 he started experimenting with outboard audio equiment and patching cheap keyboards, samplers, drum machines, effects processors, and electric guitars through various recording devices. After going to his first "rave" parties, he was inspired by the possibilities of electronic sounds coming from large quality sound systems, particularly of the subsonic realm. With the evolution of computer audio equipment, he has taken the next step with using computer programs, outboard equipment and an arsenal library of manipulated and self created sounds to initialize a universe of sonic fiction.

Other artists that Kitty-D has been happy to collaborate with include: Ooah da turntablist (the seedling escape), Goldilox, Rena Jones, Lux and more.

The Serpent Path will take us all to a special place led by Isis Indriya, Eve LadyApples and the Fanna–Fi–Allah Qawwali party (rigorously trained musicians Tahir Qawwal and Amena Chisty Qawwal, who are infinitely blessed to be the foremost disciples of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, the greatest Qawwali master of Pakistan and only nephew-successor of the great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Dildar Hussein, world renowned tabla master from the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Qawwali party).

This bohemian cabaret of sacred fools and everyday mystics invite all who feel called to join them as they lament and celebrate all that has transpired and all that we have learned from this wild time. This will culminate in that atmosphere where birth and death become one ecstatic spark, the annihilation into the infinite, which is what Fanna-Fi-Allah means, and what is accomplished through their music, bringing forth from out of the Sufi shrines, the blessing of this ancient practice of devotion and love through music and dance to all.

First of all —we really are taking it further this year by bringing you this one: Filastine! We can attempt to describe him, or in some ways it —but the video link below will do all the talking for you. Basically, Filastine creates music and live sets that wreck genre, charting a new sonic map by synchronizing mutated hiphop, smashed-up beats, and international obscura. For the last two years Filastine has brought his soundclash to clubs, squats, festivals, and underground spaces across the globe, performing with laptop, midi triggers, loudspeaker, and percussion mounted on a shopping cart, sometimes joined by a guest mc or vocalist. Special? —Yes! Dope? —Absolutely!
